Six organisations that made the colony possible.
Partners and competitors simultaneously. They build the Gate, design the cities, power the grid, grow the food, build the craft, and connect the settlements. The colony cannot function without any one of them — and all of them know it.
Alpha Horizon
"They didn't set out to move the human race. They set out to build something that would make it possible."
Alpha Horizon built the Gate. Alpha Horizon operates the Gate. Every one of the 240,000 settlers in the Velanthra system arrived on a Pioneer-class vessel under Alpha Horizon's transit contract. The organisation holds the exclusive Assembly mandate for human passage through the Velanthra Gate — and manages the Pioneer fleet, the Alsager Transit Hub on Earth, and the Landing Ports on the new worlds.
Peregrine Aerospace
"Alpha Horizon built the door. We built everything that goes through it."
Every vessel that has ever transited the Velanthra Gate was built by Peregrine Aerospace. Pioneer-class passenger transports, Cargo-class freight vessels, Mining-class extraction craft — Peregrine designs, builds, and maintains the entire transit fleet. Without Peregrine's orbital works above Aethon Prime, the Pioneer programme stops. That is not a hypothetical. Both companies know it.
Coreum Energy
"Everything runs on something. Make sure it never stops."
Everything in the Velanthra system runs on Coreum power: the Gate, the Landing Ports, the maglev network, every settlement dome, every life-support system, the VBC broadcast infrastructure. Coreum has never had a full grid failure on Aethon Prime. Three partial outages since 3022, all resolved within four hours. Coreum considers this the minimum acceptable standard, not an achievement worth mentioning.
Foresight Urban
"We have been given the rarest thing in human history: a blank page. We intend to use it well."
Foresight Urban designed Solace City on a founding principle — a city people choose to be in, not a settlement they were assigned to. The park was planted before the buildings around it. The waterfront was protected before developers arrived. The arts quarter was designated before anyone knew what would fill it. Solace City has the highest community satisfaction scores in the Velanthra system. Foresight mentions this occasionally, the way engineers mention a record that speaks for itself.
Helix Genomics
"You cannot eat a city. You cannot breathe engineering. Before anything else, you need to be able to grow food in the ground you're standing on."
Helix Genomics answers the question every other founding corporation quietly depends on: can people eat? Moving 240,000 people to a world sixty thousand light-years from Earth means moving them to a world where the soil chemistry is wrong, where the native microbiome evolved without human agriculture, where a food system failure is not a supply chain crisis but a civilisational one. Helix has twelve engineered crop varieties feeding the colony. Below the Agricultural Quarter, 400 metres underground, is the Seed Vault — the most complete genetic library of Earth's agricultural heritage outside Svalbard.
Meridian Transport
"The craft brings you. We take you the rest of the way."
You cannot build a civilisation if people cannot move around it. Meridian Transport builds and operates the surface transit infrastructure that connects what the Pioneer fleet delivers. The Solace Line — 18 minutes from Velanthra Port to the city centre — carries 28,000 passengers a day. The Basin Circuit connects the settlement zones. The Bay Line runs the coastal route every arriving Pioneer takes on their first day. On Harven, Meridian runs industrial-grade rail through conditions that would break a passenger network.
Karath Mining
"Nobody else wanted to go there. That was the opportunity."
Karath Mining holds the Assembly's primary resource extraction contracts for the Velanthra system's industrial worlds — Sulvek, Karath IV, Kalder Station, and Morrow Station. Approximately 14,000 contracted workers across four active operations, extracting the minerals the Pioneer fleet and the colony's infrastructure require. On Harven, extraction rights are currently suspended pending the Assembly's colonisation ruling; Karath operates the geological survey under Assembly oversight. The 14% Levy on all Karath mineral revenue is the largest non-Alpha Horizon income stream in the Assembly's operating budget.
Partners under the Assembly. Competitors in everything else.
The Velanthra Accord — signed at The Canopy, Solace Bay, in 3022 — is the document that defines how the founding corporations operate in the system. Each holds an Assembly Advisory Seat. Each operates as a contractor under Assembly licence. Each contributed an AI intelligence to the governing body.
No single corporation controls the new worlds. Alpha Horizon controls access — the Gate, the transit contracts, the Landing Ports. Peregrine builds the craft. Coreum powers the system. The others build, grow, and connect what the fleet delivers.
They collaborate, compete, and occasionally dispute bitterly — always under the Assembly's eye. The Assembly has issued formal warnings to founding corporations on three occasions. All were accepted. No one has yet been willing to find out what happens when one is not.
